What We Treat

We treat a wide variety of conditions here are some of the most common.

Expectant Mothers

Pregnancy causes postural changes as well as hormonal changes, which affect the function of the body. Osteopathy can help you to adapt more smoothly to these rapid changes. Common conditions seen and treated by Osteopaths are low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, leg and hip pain and thorax pain. Osteopathy can help to relieve these common aches and pains by improving joint mobility, releasing soft tissue tensions and offering advice on effective stretching exercises to do at home.

If you are unsure whether Osteopathy can help you through your pregnancy please get in touch.

95% of headaches suffered are of a musculoskeletal origin. These are often called tension headaches, which are commonly caused by slow alterations in posture over time that puts increasing stress on supporting muscles tendons and ligaments. Consequently, these headaches are treatable and relief can be found after a small number of osteopathic treatments.

Sports Injuries

Sports medicine focuses on:-

  • injury prevention
  • diagnosis of injury
  • treatment
  • rehabilitation
  • advice and self management

Sports medicine is not only for elite athletes; instead, it is for anyone who is unable to participate in their chosen sport.

Shoulder & Neck Pain

Shoulder pain can have complicated origins so it is important to have correctly diagnosed. The shoulder is prone to injuries, which can, if not addressed quickly, lead to more serious conditions such as a frozen shoulder. Most problems in the shoulders are caused by a change in function due to a postural change over time or a change in lifestyle. Often large nerves supplying the shoulder are compressed or supporting muscles are overworked leading to pain and discomfort.

The neck is the most common area to be affected by postural changes as it supports the weight of the head. Stiffness and tension can occur, reducing the mobility of the neck, resulting in aches and pain. Trauma to the neck during car accidents or falls can cause damage to a variety of structures leading to pain and stiffness. Trauma may also cause headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, and symptoms in the arms.

Your Osteopath will focus on the underlying structures causing the pain and treat these accordingly. For any neck or shoulder pain it is important to consult your Osteopath for advice and treatment as soon as possible. This will allow for a greater likelihood of a successful recovery.

Back Pain

Back pain is experienced by over 85% of the population in the UK at some stage of their lives. It is by far the most common complaint seen by Osteopaths. Consequently, Osteopaths are extremely experienced and competent at diagnosing and successfully treating the vast majority of cases. Back pain can sometimes be severe and serious in nature, but generally it is benign and can be put down to bad posture at work, poor posture generally, a sedentary lifestyle, trauma in the past, and many more reasons; the list is endless and is different for each individual.

Osteopaths will work to improve the function of the back and to improve the patient's posture to ease the stress being put on the back. Osteopaths focus on the underlying cause of the problem so that treatment has long-term benefits. Gentle stretching exercises as well as lifestyle advice will often be given to allow self-management.

Back pain is not something you have to live with.
