The initial consultation and treatment will last up to 45 minutes. All follow up treatments and reassessment will be 30 minutes.
What to expect
1. Case history
Before any treatment is done a case history will be taken. Detailed questions will be asked about the reason you have come for treatment, e.g. how long you have had the problem for, what makes it worse, and how this affects your life.A medical history will be taken to ensure you are safe to treat as well as any clinical testing and examinations that are needed.
2. Assessment
A full assessment of the affected area will be done as well as neurological and orthopeadic tests if needed. You will then be given a diagnosis which will be carefully explained to you. All treatment options will be discussed as well any rehabilitation exercises that may be necessary.
3. Treatment
Osteopathic treatment involves gentle stretching, soft tissue techniques (massage), gentle articulation of the joints and mobilisation techniques. At the end of the treatment an individually tailored self management program may be given in the form of strengthening exercises and stretches. Postural advice may also be given, as well as nutritional information if appropriate.
